Dear Alex, I’m sure that I am the last person that you probably want to hear from. I hope that this letter will find you doing well and that all is right in your world. I am sure that it probably will because you are the type of person to rise above any situation and turn every negative into a positive.
There is no doubt in my mind that this letter comes as a surprise since we ended so abruptly and I said some rather harsh things to you on the last time that we spoke. Let me apologize for the way that I spoke to you and the things that were said. I lied to you from the beginning and things some how spiraled out of control. I know my choice in handling the situation was not appropriate but I cannot change that now. I couldn’t bring myself to lie to you anymore so I had to let you go. I did not want to lose you but I knew that if I told you the truth you would leave me anyway.
You are the best thing that has ever happened to me other than my children. I made a terrible mistake letting you go. You probably don’t care at this point but I felt compelled to contact you to apologize. I would love to see you again if that is possible. I know that you have deleted my number from your phone and memory so I have enclosed it within this letter with hopes that you will find it in your heart to contact me. Please call me. If I don’t hear from you I will understand but I would really love it if you would call. I miss you.

Yeah, I am going to call you all right Randall. I am glad that you miss me. You should you inconsiderate ass. I will call you just as soon as God comes down off his throne and bows to me. I walk over to the trash can and rip up the letter before tossing the shredded pieces in. There is no way that I am ever going anywhere near that man ever again. He did not have the courage and decency to call instead of sending a letter in the mail. He must be afraid to face me but wants me to make the first move so he can see how angry I am. When I wanted you Randall you could not get away from me fast enough.

Although I don't get a very good sense of what this novel is actually about, (unless it revolves around Alex and Randall), judging from the excerpt- and I am assuming that the letter from Randall is part of the excerpt although it is not listed as such, what I read lacked punctuation (commas) as well as errors in speech. For instance, "He did not have the courage and decency to call instead of sending a letter in the mail" might sound better to say: He did not have the decency to call, instead, sending a letter in the mail. Also, for the writer to end a personal letter with his complete name seems odd, considering they had a past relationship, and she would/should know who he is if he simply ended it with "Randall." If the author wants to let the reader know his last name, she should find another way to express it. Also, the sentence beginning with "He must be afraid to face me..." doesn't quite make any sense. Indicating from the letter, he doesn't appear to be "afraid" nor is he trying to get her to make the "first move." Didn't he already make it when he wrote the letter asking her to contact him?? Obviously, this book is already written and published, but just from the above reasons, I would hesitate to purchase and/or read it.
