Dark noticed Rolf's preoccupation and thought he knew the reason for it. After watching Rolf cast a backward glance at one of the undistinguished villages they had taken lunch in, he commented, "It's too late for regrets, Rolf."
Startled out of his reverie, Rolf sputtered, "What? What do you mean, too late?"
"A man must choose his path and yours will take you away forever from the place where you grew up." Dark was sympathetic. Every practitioner he knew came to the realization sooner or later that not only were they fated to be different from most other men, they would also live a life of wandering in pursuit of something that none could even give description to. There was a hunger that constantly pulled them onward. He had wondered when it would hit Rolf, and knowing the ability of his young companion, surmised that it would be soon.
"I did not grow up anywhere near here," Rolf protested, embarrassed that his thoughts had been so easily read.
"It's natural," Dark said, going on as if Rolf had not spoken. "It was part of the price you paid the day you decided to pursue the path of a magician. Magic has its own rules. We have no option but to follow them."

Hey Opal!!
You definitly were one of my favorite teachers this year even if you made fun of me..=P OK getting to the point... your book was awsome i loved the beginning and middle and end and now i just need to read it!! =) hehe...but i will!! i promise!! im going to the library soon!! You are an amazingggg teacher and i already miss you!! Hope your summer is AWSOME and i will definitly come back and vist you next year!!!! I MISS YOU OPAL!!

i read this book when mr.seaborg gave it to me when i was in his social studies class and it was the book that realy inhansed my want to write i now am writeing a spy novel and a fantazy that i hope to someday be published
