Stabbing Pencey Boudreaux
In the town of Thibodaux, Louisiana, four close friends since high school gather to help Pencey Boudreaux with a family problem, and as they talk, memories make them aware that they have all been the target of controlling people in their families; a common thread in every home. Pencey, Laura Lee, Annie and Ida Mae soon find out the hard way that Jane, Pencey’s albatross, wears two masks; a sweet and innocent mask, and a sadistic, dark mask that none of them knew existed. Three of the four have walked away and let go of their albatross. Will Pencey let go of Jane's control over her and walk away, or will she stay and continue to be bullied by her? Every family has at least one back stabber. Will Pencey let go of Jane's control over her and walk away, or will she stay? ---------

Laura Lee came running over to see what was wrong. Surprised to find the door was locked, she banged on the glass instead of ringing the doorbell as usual. She never locked her back door until the evening hours.
Coming as fast as she could with a bloody towel on her lip, Pencey unlocked the door.
“What in the hell is going on here? Girl, what happened to your lip,” she paused and then her voice got louder. “And why is your door locked?”
“Jane happened to my lip, that’s what happened, and my door is staying locked. I don’t want her just walking in here ever again. Nothing like this ever happened, and I told you last night, nothing ever happens because I just do what she says and keep my mouth shut. But she had a camera set up in my flowers by the bay window.”
“WHAT? A camera. Why?”
“She said because she never liked me from day one. You were right about her. She had that camera in my flowers since they added the bay window in my living room a few weeks ago. She’s been spying in here for a week! I tried to grab the camera and all I got was one shoe when I feel on the floor. That’s how I cut my lip. She said she going to show Mason everything I said on that camera about her…... and to the ladies at art class…... and to the people I worked with at the bank. She wants to embarrass me all over this town.”
“OH NO girl, now it’s on. She’s not getting away with this one. If you’re not going to do anything about this, I will.” Laura Lee was looking in the kitchen drawer.
“What you looking for?”
“I don’t know yet. I’m furious! No telling what she has on that tape. That was our private conversations, and she had no right to listen in. You don’t go listening to her private conversations. As a matter of fact, she smears your name at every chance she gets. She keeps putting you down.”
“I know. I know.” Pencey was still shaking.
“In every home I’ve ever been in Pencey, people are trash talking other people, friends and family alike, but I have never heard of anyone who puts it on a videotape to show the trash talking around town like a pastor preaching the gospel in church. Who in the hell does she think she is?”
“Close the drawer, Laura Lee. Stop fiddling around for a knife or whatever. You know you’re not going to hurt that girl. Maybe slap the hell out of her, but you’re not the killing kind, same as me. I wonder if what we said last night is on that tape.”
“Pencey, yes! I’m sure it is! You said she’s been taping in your home for a week. Come on, girl. Get it together.”
Laura Lee paused for a while and grabbed a dishtowel. “Okay listen, what we said on that tape is the truth, and the truth is not gossip. If she can’t face hearing what we know she is, then she can just kiss it, honey! I have to hear her putting you down at the hair salon every time I go. She’s a spoiled brat, nosy, sketch ass child. That’s what she is. The truth is not gossip.” Laura Lee held on tight to that dish towel and banged it on the kitchen counter just like a hammer, over and over.
“Laura Lee, stop it!”
“My God, how did you put up with her shit this long is beyond me, Pencey?” She hit the dishtowel hard on the sink one time. Laura Lee was catching her second wind. Both of them were now pacing around the kitchen counter.
“Okay,” said Pencey, “let’s go over this. I talked about that damn wedding shower, but it was all true. When we talk about the truth, it’s not gossip. You’re right. We were just talking about the way things are. You talked about your controlling son in law, Annie talked about being molested by her uncle and her mean mom not doing anything about it, and … oh my God, Ida Mae talked about that guy she shot in Texas who raped her!”
Laura Lee banged the dishtowel on the counter harder. “See! Now, this is a betrayal. This is none of her damn business. What we said to each other was private and none of her damn business!”
“Laura Lee, stop slamming my dish towel.”
“Girl, get your keys! We’re going get that camera right now. Is Mason home?”
“He’s working. He’s always working, and she said the children were at her mama’s house eating ice cream.”
“Let’s go! Want me to drive?”
“I don’t know. Can you calm down your temper a notch?”
“Yes, I can. I’m sorry Pencey, but she makes me so mad, the way she treats you. Let’s go. I can drive.”
Pencey got her small purse and gave her keys to Laura Lee. “Good, because I’m too upset to drive.”
“I got your back, Pencey. Don’t you worry about nothing. Jane is like that albatross that we read about in high school. She’s stuck around your neck. We’re going to take that albatross off of your neck right now!”

If anyone has a narcissistic person living wth them read the story about Pency Boudreaux. I’m sure every family has a Jane. Surreal but the author gets her point across about how back stabbing some people can get. I recommend Stabbing Pency Boudreaux. Best scene for me was In the graveyard. Can’t wait to read more books by this author.
Fun Intro to Drama and Suspense Novels by Author!

After earlier reading two books by Plaisance, The Ghost of Mavis and Under the Healing Dome, it was interesting to read an earlier novel, Stabbing Pencey Boudreaux. This dramatic story is much more likely to come directly from life--have you ever had someone stab you in the back?! It can be a friend, someone with whom you work, or even somebody within your own family...
Jane was the wife of Pencey's only son. And with her actions, Pencey rarely saw him or her granddaughter. But Jane wasn't satisfied to just separate them, she would go further to embarrass or discredit her mother-in-law whenever she could. For instance, Jane invited Pencey to help host a bridal shower for her best friend, at Pencey's home. As always Pencey opened her home...But on the day of the shower and Pencey was out before it was to start, Jane arranged the room where it was to be held, so that Pencey was unable to enter once she came home and the party started... Pencey had realized that Jane seemed to want to have the attendees think that this was Jane's home rather than Pencey's. It was indeed a beautiful home, especially in comparison to her son's home, as he worked to take care of his family...
Fortunately, Pencey had three close friends with whom she could talk and each of them thought she should fight back! But how? Jane was so vindictive that she would lie to her son and Pencey would be forever cut off. Readers see how individuals can be so cruel to others as Pencey suffers through each stab of pain Jane placed in her back...
As they meet to support Pencey, her friends share their own stories from which they had to fight and leave... Later, they learned that somebody else was listening to those personal secrets! But while Pencey drew back from vengeance, it soon became apparent that Jane was not only a narcissist who always wanted her way, she wanted even more and was willing to do what was necessary to get it! This narcissist was also a sociopath...
Even so, readers will be drawn in as the drama and suspense gains root in Jane's actions and we discover exactly what she has planned... I was reminded of some of my own backstabbers and must admit that I was gratified as the climatic ending was very satisfactory... While this book had quite a number of proofreading errors, there are few distractions in reading and understanding the story... This is Plaisance's first attempt at drama and suspense and reveals the breadth of imagination and creatively in her storytelling, which she has continued to develop. Do check it out!

Stabbing Pencey Boudreaux, a novel by Mary Lynn Plaisance, is set in a Louisiana town where four women have maintained a friendship since high school. Pencey Boudreaux, now a widow, turns to her friends for help in dealing with a manipulative and mean daughter-in-law. Confidences are shared and advice is offered. However, no one imagined just how truly evil the daughter-in law is and just how far she is willing to go to achieve her selfish goals.
There are important themes, including friendship, family and narcissism, presented in this well written story. The characters and their relationships are fascinating. The author brings to the readers a unique and interesting story which is engrossing to the very end. Highly recommended.

Read this book to find out if Pencey will wrest back her life and free herself from Jane, who has two faces - one for the world as a real sweetheart and one for Pencey as a sadistic torturer.
