She is Prussian. He is French. They are both caught up in the American Revolution. Can the cauldron of war lead to the fires of love?

Synopsis: Monique von Strade, the headstrong daughter of a Prussian Count, knew from the moment she met the enigmatic Pierre Latier that he would steal her heart as surely as he saved her honor. Love is the furthest thing from Pierre’s mind, however. A man with a dark past who, under the guise of Pierre Marchant, serves King Louis XVI as a spy, he can ill afford to think of anything save his upcoming mission of escorting French arms to the American Colonies. After Pierre pays a visit to Monique in Paris, she confesses her unwilling betrothal to a Comte she despises and agrees to meet Pierre secretly. Within his passionate embrace, Monique finds she can no longer deny the fierce, burning love she feels for him. Later believing Pierre married her only to protect her family’s honor, she resolves to win his love even if it means following Pierre head-on into the dangers of America's war for independence.

Excerpt

"No!" Pierre cupped her face in his hands and forced her to meet his gaze. "You escaped me once, my little Aphrodite. You shall not escape me again."

Chills born of an all-consuming desire raced up Monique's spine and her voice, when it came, was a strangled whisper. "Pierre, please..."

Longing flared in his eyes. "You love me, do you not?"

She struggled free of Pierre’s embrace and, whirling, walked away from him. Yes, she loved him, so much so that despair stung her eyes and flooded her soul. But they were pledged to others: he, to some fortunate unknown female and, she, to a Comte who would show her no mercy.

She could only imagine her father's wrath if she were to give herself to Pierre, then shuddered when she visualized her future with Henri -- a man who had already accused her of being unchaste.

She swallowed her trepidation and turned. "I do love you, Pierre. More than I ever thought possible. But it can never be..."

He reached her in one long stride and cut her objection short when his mouth claimed hers in a fierce, hungry kiss that left Monique weak with her own need. She slipped her arms around his neck and returned the kiss with a passion that surprised even herself.

Pierre lightened the kiss and mumbled thickly against her lips. "You had best leave now or I..."

She brought her hand up between them and pressed a finger to his lips. A soft, trembling smile curved her lips as she shook her head. She wanted, needed his love, more than she feared for her future.

Pierre read the desire in her beautiful emerald eyes, then his lips met hers again with a possessive savageness that stole her breath away. In one swift movement, he swept her effortlessly into his arms and headed for the stairs.

Local Author Lights Fires with First Novel!
Baltimore, Maryland--Linda Morelli offers readers a passionate look at the American Revolutionary War with her new historical novel, FIERY SURRENDER (Port Town Publishing, July 2001). The novel is set both in France and in the American Colonies. She has always been fascinated by the Revolutionary War, particularly the Battle of Yorktown, and by the contributions the French made to American Independence. All of these things come together between the covers of FIERY SURRENDER.

"Dramatically sensual, full of life and action, FIERY SURRENDER is a swashbuckling historical romance in the very best sense of the word." Kathleen Gilles Seidel, multi-published, award-winning author of PLEASE REMEMBER THIS.

The Montgomery Gazette describes Morelli's first novel as "...a romantic tale of passion and intrigue..." The Montgomery County Sentinel says about her book, "...goes beyond the average romance novel ... will take readers to a different time and place."

From Denise Fleischer, Gotta Write Network online:
"FIERY SURRENDER sets out to place the reader in two war zones: one being the American Revolution, the other being the battlefield of those that love or are attracted to Monique. Morelli's ability to create a believable, realistic environment and storyline are on the mark. … Like most romance novels it makes history more dimensional and the characters alive in your mind and in your heart. Fast-moving plot, consistently true to history and good character development makes this book a keeper. – 4 out of 4 roses."

From Ann Tyler, Belles & Beaux of Romance:
"You are in for a thrilling trip across the sea to the colonies in this fast paced novel that never lets you go for a minute. This is an exciting time in history too so whatever you do, don't miss this exquisite read."
