Rick mashed the trigger on his own weapon until it clicked empty. Dropping the magazine clear, he attempted to reload, but one of the aliens was already on him. It raised a dagger above its head intending to plunge the blade deep into his chest. Staggering and falling backwards, Rick pushed with his feet to retreat from the attack.
The alien reached out trying to pull him in, but was intercepted by Quentin as he leapt from the elevator. The big man slammed into the soldier clamping onto the hand that held the dagger. He thrust with his own combat knife in an underhanded motion targeting the alien’s sternum. The blade found its mark, penetrating and driving the grunt backward off its feet. It screeched a high-pitched wail as Quentin shoved the knife in deeper and let out his own bloodthirsty war cry.
