The passing motorcyclist gave her a cheeky grin and winked.
Caitlin shook her head at his audacity - then saw a car swerve. Heard a sickening thud as it hit the biker.
When the man at her feet moaned, still alive she breathed, "Thank you Lord."
He stared up at her, "Hey angel, you foundme," he murmured, grabbing her hand. Then his face twisted in pain. When his eyes fluttered open again, he gasped, "You're praying for me?"
"Yes I am," Caitlin replied.
"You're wasting your time," he said, teeth clenched against the pain.
"No, I'm not," she whispered, reassured by the touch of God's hand on the situation the welcome wail of an ambulance siren.
The stranger squeezed her hand. "Who are you angel?"
"I'm Caitlin. Tell me your name. Stay with me."
But though his hand clung tightly, he didn't answer.
