I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written and appealing novel by David Garnes. The characters are all appealing and realistic as they each give the reader a different angle into the experiences of WWII on the home front. I especially liked reading about everyday occurrences such as shopping for food during rationing and attending movies for a little escape which is so well done and brings to life stories I have heard from my parents. The more harrowing concerns that people had for their loved ones and friends away during the war are handled with great insight and tenderness without being overly dramatic or maudlin. A well-researched and nuanced novel--A terrific read!
