With the destruction of the dragon Night Dagger and the apparent defeat of the drow, the Village of Solyn celebrates its freedom from terror.  Xander and Bloodwyn, reeling from the heartache of losing their son, Xarius, seek solace within themselves rather than each other.  Before they can bridge the widening gap between them, Xander is kidnapped by the renegade Drow Priestess, D’Amitra.

With the surprise capture of Xander the village is thrown into a panic, a panic that is ignored by the increasingly aloof Solyn.  He refuses to help search for the missing hero, but seizes the opportunity to exploit the villagers’ fears. Bloodwyn, Xander’s brave little wife, takes it upon herself to search for her lost mate.  In order to do so she will have to summon courage, make an unlikely alliance and face horrors she’d never imagined.

When Xander is returned to the village he is a changed man, one filled with memories of the horrors he was subject to under the captivity of D’Amitra. He finds his heart and mind under constant assault from dark emotions he does not understand…or know how to control.

As he and Bloodwyn struggle to make it through the days, lost in torrents of damaged feelings and twisted emotions, all of Tymarune is thrown into turmoil as a new, unknown enemy makes it way across the Greens.  With the onslaught of this new, horrible enemy looming, no one suspects that an even greater evil lurks, one as old as time. Soon, all life that falls into their shadow will become mere whispers against the darkness.
