Does it hurt a Christms tree when you cut it down? That's what Doug, the little tree, wants to know when he finds out he's being raised on a Christmas Tree Farm, and that his biggest job is to be cut down and decoreated by some family.
"Cut a tree down!!" Doug was trying to pull his rouots out of the ground. He wasn't quite sure what he'd do if he got them out - roll down the hill or something. He had never felt so stuck before. He couldn't understand why Royal wanted to be cut down - just to make some family happy?
But as Doug finds out, it's not at all that scary and he even enjoys the surprise that awaits hem.
A story for the whole family, to be read over serveral nights as the Christmas season begins.
Children are introduced to ecology and the importance of trees. They are also introduced to the concept of cooperation and individuality when one of the ornaments is broken. The angel speaks softly so that only Doug and the other ornaments can hear, "Now don't you all wish you hadn't argued. The last words Crystal heard from all of you were angry ones. Don't you all realize that each of you is beautiful, shiny or not, new or old?"

The little sapling found himself waking in a strange, new place. It wasn't warm and humid like the glass-house nursery he was use to. this place was wide open. It was fresh and free and exciting - but it was scary too.
"Well, hello little one - welcome to our farm!" said a stately Nobel Fir.
"Farm, w-what's a farm?" asked the trembling little sapling, still a little shakey on his roots.
