The plot is quickly moved along with many riveting events to pull the reader into the forefront of ever-changing malevolent scenes, while spinetingling visualizations leap from the pages! Layered with supportive subplots, the perpetual concept of good versus evil is convoluted by supernatural events that carry the reader on a psychological adventure filled with uncertain doubt and obstinate skepticism. Finally, the reader is left to evaluate his or her own ability to cope and manage the ideologies presented in this story; particularly, in the context of our ever fragile and evolving human existence.

A Cajun melody can be heard in the distance, slicing through the muggy night air, the melancholy clarion call of Louisiana’s remote marshland.  This is bayou country, where isolated clans intone an inscrutable dialect; where warm rain provides a constant I.V. drip; where drum, fiddle, and accordion rise from the swampland like lost souls in the misty twilight.

The Cajuns slip in and out of waterways, skimming the water’s surface in their carved-out cypress boats, filling wooden buckets with crawfish, and going ashore to trap for nutria and muskrat.  They are as much a part of the landscape as the milkweed, the pelican, and the green water snake.  But something has come to disturb this evergreen paradise, something as old as the prehistoric gators prowling its bottomless bogs, something as black as the water’s murky depths.

A monster of a man, Colin Cyrus, a convicted murderer and rapist, is a prophet gone mad.  He is a foot soldier of evil who speaks of the inevitable reckoning he will leave in his bloody wake.  When he encounters the Creole woman Cora Lee Baptiste and her husband, Leon, in their bayou cabin, he unleashes a savageness that is the beginning of prolific and unprecedented supernatural events in the “Big Easy”.

Detective Raleigh Spencer of the Fifth District, through guilt and compassion, becomes the unrelenting protector of Cora Lee and commits his life to ridding New Orleans of a crippling deluge of evil that has overtaken his beloved city.

His quest is not an easy one and the faith of many are brought into question as they face their own spiritual malaise.  In the end though, Cora Lee never loses faith, and Detective Raleigh Spencer shows his own mettle as he does battle with his most formidable foe ever --- Satan.

As for the bayou, its Cajun inhabitants go on as they always have, skimming the murky waterways in their cypress boats and filling the night air with their haunting melodies.

Excerpt

Biologically, the female of a species has the distinct designation of bearing offspring; this especially holds true with the human race. The woman’s innate drive to reproduce can sometimes manifest into a psychological and uncontrollable fixation that modifies the realm of reality and distorts the parameters forming nature’s dimensional boundaries. She invariably rides a hormonal rollercoaster, which can result in the desired conception and motherhood status, or a sterile childless future. Should she be unable to conceive, she becomes victim to a natural happenstance where human choice is of no value and the replacement with despair overwhelms the soul. Thus, she becomes maternally unfulfilled and spiritually desperate.

She knows a seed must be planted – a continuum of human existence - it is the natural order of things. Yet, when it is beyond her aspirations and abilities, she prays and begs for intervention by a higher power. It is within this stream of prayers that a faith can be susceptible to interception and deception. The ether of darkness patiently waits to spill into lives and evoke a sense of confusion upon humanity by casting trans-spiritual migrations into a configuration of moral malaise guided by conspicuous disguise.

And, it is here that the spectrum of truth shall be found…or perhaps, not!
