This chapbook contains 20 poems about love in our modern lives. The four sections include: Unrequited Love, Love in the Good Times, Familial Love, and The Wrong Kind of Love. The poems are predominantly free verse, although the chapbook does contain two sonnets.

THE CHOPPED UP HEART
The place you took me to break up
was in China Town, tucked along
a narrow alley, past three chain-link
fenced tennis courts with chipped
green asphalt and down a flight
of stairs. Inside it was all Formica
and scrubbed linoleum, red and purple
paper lanterns under harsh fluorescent
lights. But the dim sum was great.
We ate pork and beef before my
favorite: shark and carrot slivers
wrapped in such pale translucent dough.
you could see what was inside
before biting in. I wish relationships
could be that easy. Instead you diced
my heart just like the chef did to that
shark, your words your blades and just
as sharp.
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
day.
