The drive to Savannah would have taken about three hours in my Bug, but in my new Jag it only took me about two hours. I already felt like it was a part of me. I had no clue where it came from or who put it in my garage, but that was the least of my worries.
I turned the radio on in hopes of distracting myself. I found a station I liked, and settled in to listen. Just as I was starting to relax, I heard:
MISSING PERSON ALERT; SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD ZORAIDA MCCOY HAS BEEN MISSING FROM HER HOME IN SHADOW VALLEY GEORGIA SINCE JUNE 17TH. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION LEADING TO THE LOCATION OF THIS YOUNG WOMAN, PLEASE CALL YOUR LOCAL POLICE STATION. A GENEROUS REWARD HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN THIS CASE.
My heart sank. Zoraida missing! Where could she be?
I didn't want to think about the horrible things that could have happened. Maybe she and Zeeb went away together. As much as that thought pulled at my heart, I knew the feelings she had for him. Neither of them has answered my calls--maybe this was why.
No, I wouldn’t let myself believe he would do that to me, not after the night we had shared. There had to be another reason.
I pulled out my phone to call Zoraida's cell, but there was no answer. I tried her house, sure that her parents would answer, be waiting for some news. Weird, I thought, no answer there neither.
I’d try again as soon as I get settled somewhere. Right now, I have to find answers to my own problems.
Okay, I thought, refocusing on my original thoughts. It seems I'm supposed to be some kind of Vampire Princess. What is that about? I can't even lead my own life, let alone a group of vamps.
“Listen to yourself, Zelenia; you're talking about vampires here!” I said aloud.
If it wasn't for the accident with Zeeb, I would think it was impossible. The strange feeling that had come over me was more than I could comprehend.
Question after question raced through my head. Who was the Sophie in the letter? What does she know about who or what I am? And can she tell me about my father?
I needed to know. Pressing the accelerator down just a bit more, I sped off to find answers.
