This book contains twelve folk stories gathered from around the British Isles. I have tried to retell them in the same way the storytellers of old would have told them when they first created them.
Then they travelled from village to village and town to town holding their audiences spellbound with tales of magic and mystery; Good versus Evil, Giants and Monsters, witches and magicians, and of course some humour too.They used basic straightforward simple English that everyone can easily understand, no matter how skilled in the use of the English language. I have followed their example.

Have you heard of the story of the White Hat of Hereford? and do you know what happened when Tom Hickathrift tried to cross The Smeeth? From the beginning of time stories have been told about events that either have not been understood properly, or for which no really logical explanation can be found. The easiest way to explain away these mysteries is to simply describe them as having been caused by magic. It follows that those who performed the acts would be described as magicians. But magicians now only perform on the stage or the telly and the age of miracles has long since passed, hasn’t it? Well… maybe… but…from time to time things happen that make you wonder.
