William Pope takes command of a new ship, a privateer named Jolie Louise II during the Revolutionary War.
William and his friends are accidently left on the winter shores of Maine by their ship, the Rattler. They travel south and meet an old friend who has a new ship built for privateering and is willing to hand it over to William as its captain. William musters a crew and they head into the Atlantic in the Jolie Louise II to prey on British merchants, working their way down the coast and into the Caribbean. Their cruise is successful and they head across the Atlantic to France where William meets the lovely Louise Didier again and marries her. They travel back to colonies and purchase a home in Rhode Island, but William is still looking at returning to the sea as a lieutenant in the Continental Navy.
