‘Aha!’ He pointed a finger at Blinky’s head, ‘You’ve had your hair cut, haven’t you,’ he snapped, accusingly.
Blinky’s hand automatically went up to his head; he brushed back his new short back and sides, as he replied
‘Yes, I’ve had my haircut Mr Walsh.’
The little pig farmer took a deep breath and held it for a couple of seconds. A throbbing vein stood out in his neck, his eyes widened, then the dam burst. ‘How dare you go for a haircut in my time, while you are supposed to be here working for me,’ he screamed.
Flinching under the sheer force of the verbal onslaught, Blinky’s eyelids flickered, nervously. Then, with the strange, unassailable, logic of a nineteen year old who'd only received a rudimentary education, he answered sullenly, ‘Well it grew in your time Mr Walsh. It grew while I’ve been working for you.’
On hearing this, Dermot became apoplectic, he shouted, ‘Oh, very clever, very clever indeed Mr Boylan.’ The strange logic of Blinky’s answer had thrown Dermot off balance for a moment, and he had to pause for a moment, while he thought of an answer: before he responded. ‘Well, it didn’t all grow in my time, while you’ve been working here for me, did it?’ his voice sounded triumphant.
Blinky thought again; and, as before, with the same odd logic, he replied ‘Well, I didn’t have it all cut off, did I Mr Walsh?’
