When Mackey learns the initial attack was orchestrated by a group of global conspirators intent on establishing a new world order, he agrees to help the scientists prevent these madmen from launching the missile that will destroy the nation’s Capitol. With less than two weeks to accomplish his mission, he returns to his own time with a warning not to seek help from anyone, because no one can be trusted.
From its tense opening to its riveting conclusion, Race Against Time is a science fiction thriller that will hold the reader in its unyielding grip.

PROLOGUE
On a hot summer’s night in 1992, the earth trembled. In greater Los Angeles windows rattled in their frames, chandeliers swayed, and buildings shook on their foundations. In some homes, dishes fell off shelves. But there were no reports of serious injuries or major damage.
The 5.4-magnitude quake—considered moderate—was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and as far east as Las Vegas, 260 miles away. The quake’s epicenter was in an exceptionally remote region of the Mojave Desert. Oddly, according to seismographs, no aftershocks were recorded.
The following day, puzzled by the lack of aftershocks, a research team from the California Institute of Technology chartered a helicopter and flew over the epicenter for a closer look. What they discovered was not a fissure, but a yawning, unnatural depression on the desert floor the size of two football fields. However, before they could investigate further, their aircraft was warned off by two U.S. Army helicopters, with radioed instructions to keep out of the area. No justification was given.
For nearly two decades, no official explanation for what the Cal Tech scientists saw in the desert was given either by the Institute or by the federal government, and an inexplicable lack of interest by the media left the circumstances surrounding the event unexamined. Not until the end of 2011 did some former members of the research team (now retired and their pensions secure) speak publicly about what they had seen. Their statements prompted federal officials to come forward with an explanation of their own for what had occurred.
According to a spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Interior, a massive explosion had taken place in the desert. They deemed it an ordinary phenomenon. An act of God as it were, caused by the upward seepage of natural gas through the earth’s surface, and a lightning strike that had ignited dry scrub brush near the source of the leak.
However, geological experts were quick to point out there are no natural gas deposits in that part of the Mojave Desert. They refuted the official explanation and deemed it preposterous,
Thus, it is still not clear what occurred on that fateful night in the summer of 1992. For this reason, it is the intent of this story to tell the reader what really happened.
