An adventure/thriller...

A rusted derelict vessel has run aground in an isolated bay on Isla Socorro. Aboard, a lone man is near death. At a curiously propitious moment Rolf, an Irish wolfhound, discovers the wreck and races back to the Socorro Resort to alert his owners. Concerned, they rush out and rescue the stranger, and nurse him back to health. The good-deed however quickly devolves as they are drawn into far-reaching intrigues more challenging than they could ever imagine. The man they saved is an overlord for the Danish corporation Danetics; a global genetics lab exploiting innocent people with a ‘miracle drug’ they want the hideous side-effects of kept secret. BETWEEN THE CRACKS explores the compelling, and oftimes devastating nature of deception.

Excerpt
CHAPTER 17

Inconsolable; the man shuffled down the gangplank and out of their lives. Around him the bustle of passerby’s seemed almost ghostlike as he made his way off the dock and onto the frontage road. Some turned to gawk. Some whispered to their companions. Some pointed and smirked. Some had arrogant expressions rise up in their features. But he didn’t care. He stood out apart from all those here. He was different. His appearance, dress, and mannerisms were not like theirs and, given this, he would remain just as cold to them as they were to him. He was a solitary man, alone in a sea of vague semblances and arrogant self-centeredness. In the past, on his dozen (or so) visits to SoCal, the culture and people had felt superficial to him. So many of these people were an affront to his rigorous self-disciplines; cheeky superficial characters caught up in scatterbrained pursuits. It seemed now that everything was a distraction to the peace he sought. His heart ached for his home in Morocco. He yearned to eat his savory fare, to hear his traditional music, to embrace his children’s laughter, and to delight in his beloved wife. Despondently he trudged on towards Lindbergh Field. It was taking every ounce of energy to stay focused on what must be done. Nothing could interfere with his efforts. Being reunited with his family was foremost in his heart and mind now. Behind him was an old life, ahead of him was …

Assuming this the opening paragraph of Chp. 17, it is effective. I had no trouble getting into the narrator on several levels. The tone and tempo of the language reveals him an outsider, yet deserving of the readers' sympathy. Very impressive.

Powerful novel with a powerful message. I feel that the intensity of many parts of this novel would very much lend themselves to an audio version read by the author if ever opportunity presents.
Thank you so much for allowing me to share in this important work with themes that resonate. CJT

Effective tease. I'll be downloading the e-book, as this subject matter is of keen interest to me. BTW, per our exchange of late, over and above "Kingdom" for a look at some radical change in character challenge, check out his motel scene in "Smokin' Aces." For my money, one of his best portrayals, save his performance for me in "Journey To the Day," which I directed at University of Alabama in '85 when he was a kid. He played a young boy placed in an mental institution with adults. Justine was also in it, playing the lead. (So, send me your email so I don't have to communicate in this manner above and beyond the reviewing process. odin.aflx.com Thanks.

Congrats on your latest. Those "superficial" Southern Californians caught my eye. I don't think I could write from the viewpoint of a Moroccan. From the brief description, this looks like a page turner of thrilling proportions.
