In THE BAD ACTOR Laura Magee is Auntie Mabel, the advice columnist on the Ravensford Chronicle.  She becomes suspicious when a woman who has written to her about a mercenary boyfriend turns up dead under questionable circumstances, and she decides to investigate.  Laura talks to the dead woman’s family and friends, but still is unable to identify the mysterious boyfriend.  When Laura receives a threatening letter from someone who may be a killer, Laura continues to dig, and finally concludes that the person who wrote to her and the mysterious boyfriend are one in the same.  Although anxious and frightened, Laura continues trying to discover the boyfriend’s identity, even though it may put her in the crosshairs of a murderer.
