"Please, don't go out there," she said, worriedly. "You don't know what it could be."
Imagine waking in the middle of the night to a loud noise, going outside to check out the situation only to be faced with terror you could never have imagined. This was the situation on the mountain one night when Sean and Sidney woke suddenly to noises they weren't accustomed to hearing. What did Sean find when he ventured outside?

He lay in bed next to his wife, wondering what had woken him up. He couldn't hear anything now, but there had been some sort of disturbance. Propping himself up on his elbow, he looked over Sidney's head to the windup clock on the bed stand. 3:00 A.M. She was stirring now and turned her head to look at him questioningly.
“Go back to sleep. Everything is fine,” he whispered as he laid back down next to her.
As they were dozing off again, a loud bang had them jumping out of bed. “What the hell?” He exclaimed. Then there was the sound of breaking glass.
“What’s going on, Sean?” She was frightened. He couldn't blame her, he was scared as well.
“I don't know,” he said as they finished dressing and put on their shoes. “Don't turn the lamps on, and move quietly out to the other room.” He held her hand as they entered the living room and looked out the window.
“What do you see?” She asked in a hushed voice.
“Nothing,” he replied, letting go of her hand as they neared the front of the cabin, and took the rifle down from its place above the door. “Wait here and keep the door locked until you hear me come back. Do not make any noise, no matter what. And don't turn on the lamps.”
“Please, don't go out there,” she said, worriedly. “You don't know what it could be.”
“I have to.”
Bang! There was that sound again. Quietly opening the door he went outside, slowly making his way off the porch of the cabin, looking around with his rifle at the ready. Even with the light of the full moon, he was unable to see who or what was making the ruckus.
Walking toward the old pick-up truck in the yard, he could see the problem. It looked as though a huge animal had jumped on the hood, stuck its foot through the front window, then jumped onto the top of it. But there was no other sign of an animal anywhere. There didn't seem to be anything around the camp area. Just him, the pick-up, and the outhouse. He stood, looking into the wooded area along the edge of the yard, scratching his head and wondering what the hell was going.
Then he saw them. Dozens of pairs of red, glowing eyes looking out from the woods of the mountainous terrain around him. A chill ran through him, and the hairs on his arms and the back of his neck stood on end. What animal had red, glowing eyes?
One pair of eyes, looking upon him unblinkingly, was larger than the rest. This pair seemed to be getting larger, coming closer. He could not see a form, nothing to indicate that an animal was coming near, only the eyes which stopped directly in front of him. Whatever creature it was had no form and seemed to stand a good two feet taller than himself.
Sean heard a growl that sounded as if it started deep in the creature’s throat. This growl turned vicious quickly, and then the snarling began. Not just from this creature, but from those that remained in the woods. He was scared. More scared than he had ever been.
Shaking, Sean managed to shoot at the creature once, twice, but to no avail. How could it help when the creature was formless? He knew doing so was useless, but it was reflex.
The shot angered the creature and Sean felt something smack him on the side of his face, sending him to the ground with a heavy thud. He could not think what to do, other than to try crawling away as quickly as possible. The creature picked him up, though, throwing him against the side of the pick-up, where he slumped to the ground.
Sean felt sharp claws gouging at his back, and then what must have been long fangs were biting into the back of his neck. All went black.
