Several more warriors moved in to confront the beast. Two of them hurled their spears. The razor-sharp obsidian points cut through the beast's flesh and sunk into its chest. The beast screamed in rage as it tore the spears loose and hurled them back toward the warriors. Blood flowed from the puncture wounds.
As more men ran toward the beast, it reached out and snatched up Bolon's daughter Ichico, and Eme, the younger daughter of one of his oarsmen. Men yelled and women screamed as the swamp beast turned and charged back into the forest.
