When I was little, I was a fish.
Summers were spent swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. My mother was a beautiful mermaid; she held my hand as she taught me how to jump over the waves as they crashed on the shore.
We giggled with such anticipation and excitement. Sometimes I’d get tossed but she helped right my way. I loved my fishy family.
My father was a huge whale who could hold his breath and lay on the bottom of the ocean for hours.He taught me to be patient with life, take your time to find your way. He showed me the beauty of nature as we boldly dove through the seas. I was too young for all his lessons but he shared them just the same.
Under the water I could open my eyes and see the world of currents that shaped shells, fish and the patterns on the sea floor.
The ocean above and below stretched as far as I could see, which at the time I thought was the end of the world. I imagined the ocean was my playground and I could play with my dolphin-mermaid friends, riding the waves and laughing till the day’s end.

found this book to be such a delight . It incorporates the joys of animal behavior from a wonderfully new perspective. The perspecitve makes reading this book to children equally enjoyable for adult readers. The author takes us on a lifetime's journey in an imaginative way. I highly recommend this book. It has a point of view that is appropriate for all ages, as the message is timeless.

This is a very pleasant read and can, and should, be read more than once. At different times, and as different circumstances arise in our lives, our animal friends can serve as models and teachers of a sort. They're more like us and we're more like them than we know.
