“John” and “Jane” McFadden were looked at as the ideal couple. They both had good paying professional jobs: Jane was a doctor, and John an Electrical Engineer.
John also served as Sunday school teacher in their home church, Family Worship House of Praise. Jane was head of CFT (Champions for Tomorrow – A youth outreach to inner city gang members and drug users).
They had three kids: Cindy 13, Beverly 10, and Roger 8; and most recently the McFadden’s had celebrated their fifteenth year of marriage with a two-week vacation to the Bahamas.
Jane would later admit that while all the “signs” of an impending danger were popping up all around her, she just refused to accept the possibility that this was happening to them.
For instance; John had become unusually protective of his cell phone, almost to the point that he never allowed it out of his sight.
At night he locked it in his safe.
And then, there was this matter; on more than one occasion, Jane had smelled perfume on John’s shirts, and it definitely was not hers.
This seemed to be the “norm” whenever he stayed late at the “office” – another red flag that was ignored.
There were other odds and ends that kept raising their head as well:
—Phone calls that suddenly hung up when anyone but John answered.
—Charges to credit cards for restaurants, jewelry, night clubs, and hotel and motel bills that only John could account for.
—We had always trusted one another, however; this one time when I told John that I needed his passwords so I could synch our social media accounts, (Yahoo, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace), he initially said no, but then reluctantly changed his mind. Unbeknownst to me, he immediately changed all the passwords the following day.
