"Love is a Pretty Girl with a Cape to Share your Dreams With" is an autobiography written by author Bob Boze. The story is a collection of smaller tales told in first person that follow Boze over the course of his life. Spanning decades, the book covers Boze's early life and then explores his adventures in the United States Air Force. The last third of the book dives into his adult life.
This anthology is informal and endearing and written in a conversational manner. As a result, I enjoyed the familiar voice of the author and the witty commentary about various occurrences throughout his life. Reading the book felt more like sitting down and chatting with an old friend.
However, there were a few issues with the book that made it a difficult read for me. One of the things that I disliked was that at several points in the book the author leaves notes to the reader within the text discussing his writing. For example, in chapter six Boze writes, "However, if I screw up and leave a story or two in about my toys, please forgive me or just skip over it if you must."
Another issue that I had with the book was the general flow. At some points in the story, especially early on in the book I struggled with reading the text. Almost as if the word choices and general sentence structures were a little bit choppy. I think this was due in part to the more conversational tone of the story. Although I enjoyed the informality of it, at times it was a little disjointed.
Overall I enjoyed this book and the author's humorous retelling of his cherished memories. There were moments while reading that I found myself laughing out loud and others where I had to shake my head and smirk. His discussion of his wife Sheryl is heart warming and the stories about their life together were wonderful to read!
Recommendations: Pick up this book if you are someone who enjoys reading biographies or someone interested in world traveling adventures.
