As he could hear stuff crashing inside, Another Chance was caught in the wrong angle to one of these monsters they had been fighting all day. If it had been daylight, he might have seen the change coming before it was too late. In a moonless night darker than hell, William had no chance to respond.
“Aww shit…”
The third wave that struck them must have been nearly 16 ft high. Not an unsurvivable wave by any means, but lying broadside to that size of wave, it struck Another Chance broadside with the force of a freight train.
All William could do at this point was stare up at the face of fate. Death looked him square in the eyes. He would swear later that Murphy was riding high on its shoulder.
The boat rolled violently onto its port side. The wave drove the boat totally up on its side. The mast and covered sail was lying in the water. Before the boat had a chance to rock back upright, the water from the breaking wave crashed down on the now sideways lying boat. The force of the wave and the tons of water falling with it were too much to overcome. The hapless boat was driven under the surface from the sheer force. As the boat continued to roll, her keel broke the surface of the water as she gained momentum. It had rolled completely upside down.
