Ezra Smith is a novelist who writes ghost stories about the visions she has always seen since she was a child; true stories that ghosts tell her before she helps them enter the white light. She doesn’t want anyone to know her fiction novels are based on her real life. She meets Grant and they get married. She sees no reason to tell him either because he’s spooked by the existence of real ghosts. A gentle ghost named Allie lives with Ezra, but she doesn't remember how she died, so she stays in the attic of Ezra’s home because she didn’t want to go into the white light. Grant and Ezra’s one-year marriage is turned upside down when another rebellious ghost named Jenna appears to Ezra and she doesn’t like Grant. All Ezra ever wanted was peace on Earth, so who's this rebel ghost named Jenna and why doesn't she like Grant? She refuses to leave Ezra's side. Can Grant deal with a wife who sees dead people?
Excerpt
Ezra dozed off on the sofa for about half an hour from sheer exhaustion and disbelief about what Jenna told her. She woke up in a frenzy from a nightmare.
In her dream, someone was slapping her on the bottom of her feet with a ruler and then she saw herself falling down into the bottom of a deep lake. She kept drifting downwards for what seemed like an eternity, and when she hit the bottom of the lake, Grant was there… sitting on a chair made of pretty seashells. A light was shining from above on his chair and his face came close to her face as he asked, “Are your feet hurting?”
She screamed… and her scream was drowning her. She woke up in a panic, gasping for air saying, “Get away from me. I know what you did. Get away…”
Ezra was never in the state of mind she was in at this time. She had no fear of the dead, and she never had any fear of dying. Now she was faced with fear… and she didn’t like what she was feeling one bit.
Allie brought her a wet towel and a glass of cold water. “Miss Ezra, please tell me you’re okay. If you leave here, I’m going with you into your light.”
“My light?”
“Are you dying?” Allie asked with a sad face.
“No, Allie. I’m not dying. I’m afraid. I’m not used to feeling afraid of anything. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just had a horrible dream.” Ezra kept shaking her head, trying not to see what she has seen in her dream, but the image of Grant wasn’t going away.
“You’re seeing what happened to me or what will happen to you. Tell me your dream,” said Jenna.
When Ezra told Jenna her dream, she and Allie gasped. Allie said she was slapped under her feet with a ruler several times while she was fighting to get away from her murderer, but no one heard her screaming.
“So was I, Allie. Several times I was slapped under my feet with a ruler for three days.” Anger began to fill Jenna’s lost soul.
Ezra took a few sips of water and asked Allie, “Did you drown? Is that how you died?”
“Yes, I remember now. Someone with a crooked arrow tattoo on his wrist threw me into the bayou water when I was still alive. I remember. I was doing homework on a picnic table next to the bayou near the school. It was a quiet place surrounded by trees… and this boy I saw in high school came to sit with me and tried to put his hands under my skirt. I slapped him and tried to fight with him, but he was too powerful. He took my shoes off and slapped me under my feet with the ruler that I had on the picnic table. He laughed and was still trying to get under my skirt and he succeeded. He hurt me so bad. It’s a blur, but the next thing I knew I was in the bayou.” Allie became sadder. “No one in my family knows where I am. They found my school things on the picnic table but they don’t know where I am. It’s been two years now.”
“Then why did you appear to me at the coffee shop next to the graveyard? Someone had to bury your body.” Ezra spoke with much compassion.
“My family had a memorial for me in my aunt’s family tomb. My body isn’t in that tomb. They just had a memorial service. I heard them crying. I was trying to tell them that I was with them, but none of them heard me cry… but you. When you asked, ‘who’s crying?’ in the coffee shop, I went to you. I was lost and alone.”
“Oh, Allie. When you found me in the coffee shop, you didn’t know what happened to you. Now you know how you died. I’m glad for you. Do you want to go to the white light now?” Ezra was ready to burn her story on a piece of paper over the candelabra if she was ready to go.
“No, I feel like I need to stay with you and Jenna.”
Confused at why neither one wanted to leave her side, she got up, locked her front door, and told them to follow her upstairs in her bedroom. All three sat on her bed full of lace pillows and she began meditating.
“What you doing,” asked Allie.
“Just give me some time to gain my thoughts. I need to think in silence.”

Ezra never saw the Hell she was going to go through until Jenna and Allie came to her to PROTECT HER.

The PINK door in the middle is the wandering door, for those who don’t know what happened to them when they died and need some time to sort things out. You can stay and wander around or come back to Earth to find out what happened to you.
The GREEN door on the right looks exactly the same as the other two, but this is the misery door, and inside it’s filled with darkness for the ones who lead an evil, wicked life here on Earth. Once you enter the misery door, you can’t get out.
When it’s your time to leave this planet, enter the door on the left.”
What would you do if somebody told you that your husband had committed murder? Would you believe that your loving husband was capable of murder? Taking it a step further, what if the one who told you that he was a murderer, was an actual victim of your husband?!
Ezra is our main character. She is a successful author of ghost stories but she is also a clairvoyant... And, although nobody knows it, her books are actually nonfiction stories about those individuals who have died and she helped move on into the light... Ezra is also still early in her honeymoon period and is very happy with Grant, remembering often how she felt each morning as they made love. He was so loving...
Jenna picked up her words on the wind and had come to hunt for her, as a new ghost who was trying to figure out what to do next. Her ghost had left her watery grave after having been murdered... She, at least, figured out she had died and could remember that man's face as he had attacked her...
Ezra had been able to purchase a new home based upon her earnings, so Grant had just moved in with her. He did not know, then, that Allie, a ghost, was living in the attic, who was shy but made no trouble for Ezra as they were working through what options were available to her.. She, too, had been murdered in her teens and was still struggling with that trauma...
Ezra had never had any problem with any of those who had died unexpectedly and had little understanding what happened afterward. In fact, she had never had any of these lost souls lie to her, but she was positive that Jenna had lied...
Jenna knew she was not lying and she decided that she wasn't interested in going into the light--she was immediately afraid on behalf of Ezra and vowed not to leave until the truth about her new husband was proven... And, soon, Grant had forced Ezra to reveal that there were ghosts in her house...and he wasn't happy. After a heated discussion, he left... and threatened that he didn't know when he'd be back... In the meantime, Jenna went into details of exactly how she had been married... And then, Ezra napped and had a horrible dream which revealed even more!
Allie had also been murdered as a teenager by Grant! And both ghosts then began to learn more about their abilities as a ghost... And planned on ensuring in one way or another that their murderer was convicted for their deaths!
And that proved to be quite fun for readers... When Grant threatened to expose that Ezra's books were really nonfiction, she became worried that her "gift" would be exposed and fans would turn against her...
Once again, Plaisance takes readers into a tour of the supernatural and keeps us interested right from the beginning. After all, having a ghost for a friend could prove to be advantageous, don't you think? Do check out another enjoyable book from this prolific author!
