CHAPTER 1
MOUNTAIN MEN
Deep in the mountains of Northern Pennsylvania, two men sat outside their cabin cooking some fresh fish over an open fire. These are no ordinary men; their clothes soiled, their faces unshaven, their hair long, and tangled. The brothers Sam and Bill McCoy are from Southern Georgia. Sam the older, smarter, and taller of the two, would be almost a plain looking man without the long tangled hair and beard. Bill on the other hand is as dumb as they come, but not from lack of trying. He has always been slow, he can’t help it. He follows along with his big brother and does whatever he tells him to do. Bill has a large peering forehead, brown rotted teeth, and deep, dark furrowed eyes. With his long dark straggly hair and beard, he has an almost Neanderthal look to him.
Three years ago in 1984, in a little town in Georgia, they had robbed a bank, shot and killed the guard. They got away with thirty grand cash, in assorted bills. The police were searching everywhere for them. The noose tightened, but the brothers managed to escape the area. On the run, the men headed north for the mountains and away from society. They drove part of the way, then got rid of the car, bought some supplies and headed north on foot. The journey to freedom took them into the deep mountain forests and up along the beginning of the Appalachian Trail.
Their escape took them a few long months before they reached a heavily forested area high in the mountains. As they explored along a small clear water stream, they came upon an old abandoned hunting cabin. Lucky for them, it was late fall, and getting colder by the day. They claimed it their own and started fixing it up. During their first winter on the mountain they ran out of firewood and nearly froze to death in the drafty old cabin. The brothers live in almost total isolation and in order to survive, they had adapted and become mountain men.
Once every three or four months, Sam cleans up in the stream behind the cabin. He shaves his dirty beard, trims and combs his long hair into a ponytail. He looks fairly normal with his baseball cap and sunglasses on. The two of them go on the two and a half day hike to a small town down in the valley. The little town has a general store and a sports shop. Bill waits in the cover as Sam takes the packs into town, and fills them with supplies. No one seems to pay much attention to Sam. In fact, they are happy to have his business. He always pays in cash.
After dinner, the brothers shared some whiskey and cigars. They watched the distant sun setting below the mountains. It was clear and cool evening. Before long, the moon was beginning to make its appearance. It was dusk, that time in the summer when the day seems to linger on and on before giving in to the darkness of night.
Sam looked up at the moon, “Tonight the stars will be so bright and clear, you would think you could jump up and touch them.
Sam looked at his brother, “You know what? We have a good life out here, except for one thing.”
Bill looked puzzled, “What, what more could we want? We got us a warm, good cabin, cash money. The fishin and huntin is good.”
Sam smiled, “This is true my brother, but we are still missing something, and my desire is growing stronger every day!” Sam looked at his brother and shouted, “A woman, we need us a woman!”
“Oh! Oh!” Bill replied, “Like when the Indians had them a squaw.”
“Yes! Yes a squaw my brother, a beautiful young squaw!”
Bill look puzzled again, “How, how we gonna get us a squaw?”
Sam laughed, “Don’t you worry brother Bill, I’m working on a plan.”

What started as a peaceful family vacation in a tranquil mountain lake setting for Tex and his family becomes a deadly nightmare.
BUTTERFLY LAKE by Robert J. Saniscalchi is another great action-thriller that no only showcases a parent's worst nightmare, but the strength and trust of two warriors to save the day against all odds. Dialogue that feels real, a family in crisis and one father doing what we all wish we could do to save his child. But at what cost to everyone involved?
A fast read, no stumbling over unrealistic dialogue, and characters that feel like everyday people (for the most part), a great way to escape into the world of reading!

I encourage you thrill seekers to pick up this book. Realistic characters, great dialog and a well written action adventure will keep you turning the page. You will not want to put this book down. I am looking forward to the next book in this adventure series.

I enjoyed reading “Butterfly Lake: Another Rob Marrino and Tex Larson Story” by Robert J Saniscalchi which is an exceptional, well structured, and very dramatic story. I also enjoyed reading another novel by this excellent author, “Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brother.”
In my opinion, this is an action-packed story that I found to be highly entertaining. The author quickly takes the reader into heavy drama and suspense when a young girl (daughter of one of the protagonists) is cruelly abducted by two worthless and wicked derelicts.
I especially liked and was quickly drawn into the flow of this story, and the smooth and fast-paced writing style of this author who writes in a descriptive yet concise manner with just the right amount of detail. I felt the author kept the story very dramatic, eventful, with great amounts of tension and suspense continually growing as I read it.

What should should have been an ideal family vacation for the Larson family quickly turned into a family's nightmare. An abduction leads to a frantic search. Tex Larson knows the local police will do their best, but with his best friend Rob Marrino at his side he is confident they can find his daughter. What follows is a perilous search.
I found Butterfly Lake to be skillfully written. Tex and Rob share a strong bond. Their courage and loyalty is very evident. The large cast of secondary characters are well developed and realistic. The dialogue is clear and concise. The narrative is well plotted, packed with action and moves very quickly. This exciting book is well worth reading. Highly recommended.
I knew I was in for a good story when I saw author Robert J. Saniscalchi had written another book. I always enjoy his work and was not disappointed with"Butterfly Lake," where old friends, Rob and Tex, find themselves in a frightening nightmare. Trailing through the serine mountains, tracking two possible criminals brings back visions and thoughts from their time in Vietnam. But, they are on a mission and nothing but success is good enough. "Butterfly Lake" is another suspense-filled drama that is a fast and easy-read. One of those "I couldn't put it down" books. I read it straight through. A big 10 outta 10! Check this one out, you wont be disappointed.
