From your excerpt, this looks to be a romance novel. But it certainly could be also a novel showing us, today, how difficult it was for people from two economic backgrounds, even of the basic heritage, European, had it during the early part of the twentieth century and being accepted by society. Showing us that our problems today are similar and have not changed all that much. Or not. There is not enough of the book here to make any definitive conclusion about that.
But I do hope this book does have a lesson for the reader to learn about how perseverance and love overcomes even the greatest obstacles.
He needs a wife. She needs a reason to trust him. He fell for her at first sight. She, not so much.
