How do you attempt to rebuild your life when you suddenly lose your husband and the father of your three young daughters?

In an instant, without warning, without reason, the life my children and I knew was ripped from us and we were left alone. My children were without their father, and I did not have my husband. My incredibly whole and happy family was gone. I didn’t know who I was anymore. I went from being someone who was happily married, just beginning the middle of a life with three young daughters, to a single mother and a widow. I was becoming an empty shell of the person I used to be and I had no idea what life was going to become for us. The struggle to survive the overwhelming grief, and emotions of confusion, guilt, anger, debilitating sadness, PTSD, while trying to sustain and rebuild a life was some days close to impossible. There were days I didn’t think I was going to survive let alone be happy again. However, it seemed God and the universe had other plans for me. I believe the same is true for each and every one of us. No matter what you believe is supposed to happen, or what direction you think your life should take, fate may have something entirely different in store for you.

Author Bio: Janine holds a Bachelors degree in both Psychology and Elementary Education. She is currently attending Graduate school working towards a Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling. She lives in Rhode Island with her husband Dennis, three beautiful daughters, Jacqueline, Victoria and Olivia and their dog Sonny. Her strong faith in a higher power has kept her moving forward giving her the strength, determination and courage to tell her story. This is her first novel.

Excerpt
My daughters Victoria, 16, and Olivia, 11, were both asleep in their rooms and would be getting up soon. Michael was supposed to take Olivia to school that morning. Our oldest daughter, Jackie, was a freshman in college, living in Boston.
I went into panic mode, worrying about my girls and what I was going to tell them when they woke up. I still had no idea what was really happening. As the line between reality and the surreal continued to blur, I wished this was all some overly vivid nightmare from which I would soon awaken. Unsure what else to do, I called my sister. Despite the early hour of the morning, she picked up right away, knowing I wouldn’t have called her at that time if it wasn’t an emergency.
I told her what was happening and asked her to come over right away. I could always count on my sister whenever I needed her. We had always been close and would do anything for one another. She got there as soon as she could to help me with the girls. They were told that I had to take their father to the doctor because of the knee pain he had recently been experiencing. It was at least a lie they would believe because Michael had been out of work due to the injury.
I also called my father because I needed someone to drive around with me looking for Michael. I knew I couldn’t drive because I could barely feel my legs. I needed to find my husband. My mother, who has always been my rock, was away on vacation in South Carolina.
I kept saying to myself, “Michael where did you go?”
