This is a combination of fiction and nonfiction about Merab, Michal and Rizpah based on the Old Testament books of 1 and 2 Samuel. Merab and Michal are the two daughters of King Saul and Rizpah was his concubine. Merab apparently dies before she can raise her five sons. The Bible, various translations, reveal that Michal raises Merab's sons. Michal could not bare children. Rizpah had two sons by King Saul. Saul gave Michal to David hoping she could snare David in a way that either Saul could kill him or he would die in a fight with the Philistines. However, Michal loves David and even saves his life. When that fails, Michal is given to Phalti. Later after Saul is killed by the Philistines, David takes Michal back. Because of Saul's killing of the Gibeonities David turns over the five sons Michal is raising and the two sons of Rizpah to the Gibeonites. Despite the pleading of Michal and Rizpah David allows the Gibeonites to execute the seven young men who were probably innocent. Rizpah watches over the bodies of the sons until the famine ends, a period of five months. David allows the bodies to be buried. Michal is returned to Phalti to live out her life with the man who has loved her all along.
