"Don't ever try to leave me or I will take Atieh [Ah-te-Ah] to Iran and you will never see her again." These are the words I lived with for too long. Sad thing-I knew he was telling the truth! Any argument we had, and there were many, Amir my ex-husband screamed those words at me.

What is this story about? Can you give me a little information?
Welcome to Hell is a very well told story; and it is told from the heart. The tension never lessens from the first page to the last. The author objectively describes the abuse she endured from her textbook controller of a husband. Their daughter, Atieh, which means Gift from God, is the light of her life. Her husband’s most damaging threat was that he would take Atieh back to Iran and keep her there. Once she managed to divorce him, he followed through with that threat. She follows them to Iran and seemingly reconciles with her husband until the abuse begins again. Along with her own story, Ms. Aalaie manages to weave in excellent descriptions of life in Iran as an American in the late seventies. Culture, history and even politics are touched on. The book is written in a personal and conversational voice that is very appropriate. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who appreciates an amazing personal story.
