For all that man does not know about the things that lurk in the shadows of his own heart, it could not be surprising that he would be even less knowledgeable about the world that he inhabits. There is so much beneath the surface that remains unexplored and misunderstood altogether. It’s not with conceit that I say I’m one of a small number of people who have borne witness to the existence of life forms that may very well be the originators of all life on this planet, perhaps the entire universe; a hereditary link to a superior species that has existed unseen among us for millennia.
The entries that I have made into this journal over the last week will serve to either prove my conviction to a skeptical world or have me branded as utterly mad, warranting immediate and permanent institutionalization. I hope that my reflections can convince some among you that not only am I untouched by psychosis or any other kind of mind-altering malady, but my faculties have grown exceedingly sharper because of the experience.
I freely admit that during this period of my life, I had taken to drinking again. However, I have not touched a drop of alcohol since the encounter. What I have seen has efficaciously exposed the entirety of my human frailties and the foibles of my character, and as a result I will never be the same again. I do not feel any less human, but certain in the affirmation that humanity is less important in the grand scheme of the universe. Perhaps Copernicus felt the very same way when he formulated the heliocentric model of our solar system and presented it to the rest of the disbelieving world.
Before I explain further, let it be noted that I understand the risks to myself, both personally and professionally, as a heretofore unknown writer. But this is a story that must be told. As a purveyor of truth, I am compelled to make my experiences a matter of public record. Once my full account is revealed, the importance of my discovery will be understood. Derive whatever meaning you will from this personal affidavit, and take into consideration, if you must, my inebriation at the time, but the facts are incontrovertible.
