He wrapped his arms around Libby's waist. "What you thinking?" he asked her.
"Just looking, Just thinking."
"Tell me."
"I was thinking, that it looks like all of the gods are at war, and that they are going to destroy themselves, destroy us, I was thinking that it looks like the world is going to end."
He laughed and kissed the back of her neck. "Serves me right for asking."
"I always think that when I remember that day. It sounded like gunfire coming from the clouds, the sky, the storm in the distance, so very far and yet so very close. They were above me and around me, everywhere. The sound fills my mind with nightmares that I can't express. Sometimes I just get lost when I hear a storm, sorry darling; I'm back in the room now."
"Love you, Libby. Let's watch the storm together."
She doesn't say anything; she doesn't need to. They have this same conversation every time there's a storm, even when she just thinks there's a storm, but it's not a storm, it's not thunder, it's just the distant rumble of a plane or a tractor. Of course, sometimes it really is a storm, and sometimes there's not even a sound to be heard.
