House hunting can be murder...
As Christmas approaches, Theodore Stone and Rose Miles are house hunting, but the property they want to buy comes with some unexpected and unwelcome features. Holiday spirit is in short supply as the Milestone Agency duo discover the deadly secrets hidden in an ordinary house on an ordinary Oxford street.
'Oxford Crimson' is the fourth novel in the Milestone Agency Victorian mystery series.

Once outside, she tucked her hand into the crook of Theo’s elbow as they walked. As promised, it took only a few minutes to arrive at the house and Rose looked at it appraisingly.
“What do you think?” Theo asked.
“It’s much like mine, isn’t it? It looks as though it’s been empty for a while, so may need some work done inside. Cleaning, at the very least.”
“And it’s convenient, being so close to yours. I expect we can live there until this one is ready.”
“Will you mind that?”
“I can tolerate just about anything as long as we’re together. I believe this must be Mr Sheldon, the house agent, just arriving.”
Mr Sheldon was a fussy little man of about forty, with a wispy beard and moustache. He was barely as tall as Rose and smiled at her nervously before turning to Theo.
“Good afternoon, Mr Stone. I’m Stuart Sheldon, from Judkins and Stern, property agents. Dreadful weather, isn’t it? So cold.”
“But not unexpected in December. May I introduce my fiancée, Mrs Rose Miles?”
“Delighted to meet you,” Sheldon said, while Rose nodded politely. “Shall we look inside?”
“Please.”
Sheldon produced a key and inserted it in the front door lock. It turned with a scraping noise that Rose couldn’t help feeling was rather sinister. He pushed the door open and they followed him into the hallway while he opened another door to what would probably be a drawing room.
“Oh, my goodness,” he said, stopping abruptly.
“What is it?” Theo was several inches taller and he peered over Sheldon’s shoulder.
“Someone’s been in here and they’ve no right to do that, none at all.” The agent was almost shaking with indignation.
“Did you expect the property to be empty?” Rose asked.
“Yes, of course. Empty and completely unfurnished, as I told Mr Stone.”
“Well,” Theo said, “it’s not exactly empty and unfurnished now, is it?”
