Meandering Waters

A man can learn so many things.”

Meandering down from a mountain hollow
The creek runs clear and cold,
And abundant with life.
Surrounded by hardwoods and softwoods,
Leaves dapple the sunlight
And shade the tender flora
That call the woods home.
The water plays
Over rocks and stones
Of every size and hue,
Gurgling and babbling
As it makes its way
Ultimately to the sea.
From deep in the shadows
The animals come:
Deer, raccoon, bear
And birds of every kind,
To sip and ford,
And disappear once more,
Any sound of their passing
Swallowed by the eternal sound
Of the water.
