This is the fourth volume of Sion Liscannor's autobiography and like the previous books it is a fascinating blend of personal history, cultural history, and metaphysical speculation. It is also a profound reflection on the nature of love and sexual identity. The narrative plays out against the background of the early Gay Liberation movement, but the author inclines towards the ‘Q’ category of the LGBQT+ series – ‘Questioning’ or ‘non-binary’ – which leads him into a probing examination of the nature of love and its relationship to sexuality.
As with the previous books in the series, the author offers many insights into the history of religion and the Greek myths: in this case the focus is on Zoroastrianism and the mysterious cult of the Boy God.
The author appears to have an intimate knowledge not only of art history, but also of the contemporary art industry. He makes some startling revelations about the marketing of ‘fakes’ and he chronicles the little-known heist of a major piece of classical sculpture. After reading the early volumes I thought of the author as an artist; now I am beginning to suspect he was a professional art dealer!
