Admiring the heroics of legendary bounty hunter, Bill Bentley, Dan is mesmerized by an ancient oil painting of big Bill.
Lonely and frustrated with her disappointing marriage, Sydney attempts the impossible via sheer willpower and an elaborately thought out plan. With much trepidation and forethought and the help of some strange herbal tea, she transports both herself and her grandson back to 1875. Sydney’s gallant efforts are to show her grandson a simpler and more honest way of life as well as put him in the company of iron-fisted men who ruled the day. While limping along a deserted dirt road out in the middle of nowhere they run into no other than the big bounty hunter himself, Bill Bentley.
A precarious and trying adventure ensues as Bill becomes their guide and takes Sydney and Dan on an unforgettable track through the backcountry of 1875. On horseback, their goal is to get back to Escondido, California. A violent saloon brawl and shoot-out between big Bill and a group of prejudiced loud mouths has young Dan jumping into the melee with his grandmother’s .22 pistol to gain, firsthand, a lesson in old time frontier justice. Dan discovers the hard work and long hours of ranch life and comes of age with a trip to the local whorehouse.
Dan’s big shocker comes with his grandmother's untimely death. Some mysterious revelations start the young man to wondering just where he really is and how he got there. The situation is later further complicated when Sydney’s husband, Ben, comes gunning for her. Torn between her new love and Ben, Sydney is forced to make some life changing decisions.
