"Altar of the Sun" is the first of three romantic adventures in a series for Caitlin Spencer, archeologist and 'Seeker of Myths', where-in a childhood adventure becomes an adult obsession. Written in alternating Chapters in alternating times, the reader may follow Sula and Jem's search for a new land and at the same time follow Caitlin's attempts to find their final resting place 300 years later. Her quest is at times mystical as she is driven to find 'The People' and she crosses paths with many interesting characters, not the least of which is 'Bear', a man of many talents and secrets. He joins in her obsession and together they seek the truth behind the myth, at the same time discovering certain truths about themselves. Will they discover the Secret of 'The People'? Will they discover the truth about each other? Most of all, will they admit the truth about themselves?
Bear just shrugged his shoulders and stared up at the stars. Finally, he got up, went to the boulder, reached somewhere beneath it, removed a small rock, and then pushed the boulder aside, revealing a small opening. With a sweeping bow, he stood aside, waiting for her to enter. Now Caitlin was wary. He had given in too easily, and she wasn't convinced that he believed she would call in the others, as she had threatened. Or maybe, he'd just push her down a hole, move her car to another area, and claim no knowledge of her.

Josh figured he'd better get the supplies before word got around and things became difficult. If the business people felt as the blacksmith did, they might close the town to him, too. Burns Mercantile, the sign said. He entered to the tinkling of a bell.

Chewing a treat that I had just been given, I lay in my favorite spot, a place I’d hollowed out in the cool, damp earth of the rose garden, listening to the sounds of the afternoon fade one by one; except for the screeching of the cicadas, a sound that lingered in my ears like the tearing fabric of the afternoon sky.

Samantha (Sam) Maguire is a young Christian who just happens to fly helicopters, haul freight, rescue lost hikers and skiers, and fight forest fires in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Once inside, Carly saw how busy the Inn really was, especially on this Saturday night. The noise from the live band in the restaurant/bar was hardly muffled by the intervening doors and walls and it looked as if the overflow had settled in the coffee shop. Even her favorite spot, the booth in the far corner, was taken by someone reading a paper. How rude, she thought, taking up a whole booth on a busy night just to read a paper!
