She never felt safe at home as a young girl, and didn't understand why when she finally escaped she wasn't safe in the big wide world either ...effectively jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!
This memoir is by a very good friend of mine; a friend who has revealed after many years the trauma and anxiety and depression she felt all her life before she finally got counselling, and how the memories of her childhood came flooding back when perpetrators of child abuse were found out nationally, and the media went wild as many victims came forward.
My friend has no wish to be recognised so she used a pseudonym - " ...to protect the guilty", she quipped to me, and I have helped her as an amateur book publisher to tell her story which, I have to admit, | |  | | The AL-EX Project (ALternative EXistence)
The AL-EX Project (ALternative EXistence) is my first foray into light science fiction, written under the name of C M Donaldson (my real name) with a tale that tells of what happens when our main character aims to explore the dream state and manipulate his dreams and control them. Unethical and extremely dangerous, pushing the boundaries, Alex is unstoppable when his explorations become an obsession.
Who wouldn't like to go back into their dreams at will and speak to the type of characters you wouldn't normally encounter in real life. For that matter, what is real and what is fantasy? Talk about blurred lines!
It was a huge amount of fun writing this novel and I want it noted that the dreams described in the story-telling are dreams I've actually had, so it made it easier all round to use real authentic dreams that weren't made up for the book although I may have modified them slightly (obviously describing some of the details from a male perspective). So if they seem weird and quirky, well, dreams usually are, aren't they?

span style="font-size: larger">This is an extremely funny little book. The title alone should start you off. The tales within trace the writer's lifelong struggle citing the pitfalls and stumbling blocks she has encountered in trying to lose weight and, more importantly, keep it off. br />

There are times of triumph trying out another 'new' diet, but she always puts the weight back on. She never gives up though and the diary-like entries tell it like it REALLY is for those of us who can relate to her frustrations. br />
