In this book, the author tracks the origin of a tribe that eventually becomes the Calusa Indians. In 15,000 BP, After traveling the land bridge across the Bering Sea, they are introduced to canoe builders, and are ever after, a tribe of the sea. Their route to SW Florida is south along the Western California Coast to Cabo San Lucas at the tip of Baja, Sea of Cortez to Mexico, south to Central America, and across to the Caribbean Sea. Colombia to the Caribbean Islands and later, Cuba. Traders tell them about Florida, so they head north. The Calusa hold Southwest Florida for 2,000 years, but the arrival of the Spaniards and the germs brought with them, spells doom for the Calusa.

Sean McKannah left Ireland in the late 1700s and after a few years at sea, he left the ship. It was now 1800, and he looked forward seeing the huge new country.
Sean McKannah marries Issabella, and over the next few years they create five new McKannahs to help their new country grow. Patrick and his three brothers, Broderick, Simon, Ian, and Jesse all looked after their late arriving sister, Aleena.
Patrick and Broderick finish school in California, and head east to begin their higher education at the newly formed Harvard Law School.
