Christmas Tree Acres is about a sixth grade girl who escapes from a bad foster care situation. She survives being temporarily homeless, then ends up with Gracie, an elderly woman who lives on a retired tree farm.
Cranberry Wilkes had a great family, but they trickled away due to sad events. Her parents died in a fire, then her grandmother died of cancer, as did the woman she had handpicked to raise Cranberry after she died.
Life in foster care is tough on Cranberry, as she is first placed with a woman who punishes her by snipping off chunks of her hair. After that, she goes to a family in which the dad has a terrible temper, and he breaks her front tooth.

Based in WW2-era Miami, the history is real, but the characters have powers called "Graces." Truly it's historical fantasy.
Set against a backdrop of World War II, the Grace family and friends live in, and operate out of, Gracestone, a Miami Beach luxury estate. Most of them are "Graced," meaning they have special powers: Navigators can get anywhere without a map, and are never lost; Incapacitators are never bested in a fight, and can turn any item into a weapon; Knowers can learn all there is to Know about any topic, just by concentrating on it for a few moments. There is no finite number of Graces, and a person can be Graced in more than one way,
