After the bloodiest battle Britain has ever experienced, the tribes continue to revolt against the oppression of the Roman invaders. From the decadent luxury of Nero's Rome to the deprivation of Boudicca's prison cave, the story moves between disparate worlds. Boudicca survives her incarceration but the new governor, Trebellius, sends her to train as a gladiatrix. She meets Cador, another captive gladiator and falls in love with him. Trebllius, spurned by Boudicca, vows his revenge on her and Cador at the spectacular opening games of his new London amphitheatre.

Life in the turbulent 1st century AD. Rome invades Britain and after the Romans seize Boudicca's land and wealthy, she raises a vast army. They raze Camulodunum and then Londinium before the military governor, Suetonius defeats her and takes the lives of 80,000 Britons in the bloodiest battle ever fought on British soil.
Boudicca suffered cruelly at the hands of the Romans yet not one of her own subjects stepped forward to save her. The two officials, angry with her spitting in their faces, decided to teach her a lesson.
"Take her," the commander ordered, "tie her to that post."
She fought as hard as she could but they were too strong for her and soon she was bound by her arms to the pillar. "Strip her!" he ordered.
