The preacher woke to a heavy smell that burned his throat. He sat up to find the boy staring out the window into the front yard. It startled him. The boy looked like a ghost in a dream.
"Boy?" he asked in a waivering voice.
The boy turned an expressionless face to him. The moonlight spilling in the window cast a strange glow around the boy.
"Mother's dead," the boy said in a flat cadence.
"Dead?" The preacher asked unsure if he was dreaming or not.
"Where do you think she will sleep tonight, Father?"
"God will judge that."

It’s snowing outside.
I hate the snow. I have since I was a small boy. I have since the year that my father died in 1985. I was eleven at the time.
My wife is calling me to come look out the window. She says the snow is beautiful. I’m afraid to look out the window. I’m afraid that he’ll be out there. The snow just started falling an hour or two ago, but as the night lingers the storm is really suppose to hit. As the snow piles up, the stronger he’ll be.
