This is a story of lost love set in the world of radio, and takes us to various countries in Europe, including a spell on the North Sea.
Dave Buckingham, a DJ on a small radio station in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is feeling very disillusioned with his life. On his midnight show, every record he plays reminds him of Katharina, his Austrian sweetheart, who he lost touch with 19 years ago when they were both working on an offshore radio station on the North Sea. As his programme progresses, his memory works overtime, and then the most extraordinary sequence of events unfolds.
Dave Buckingham, a DJ on a small local commercial radio station, Strathdee FM, in deepest Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is on-air on the midnight show.
Approaching 41 and feeling very disenchanted with his life, and the very little that he has to show for it so far, he contemplates chucking the job in and heading off to Vienna to search for the love of his life - a girl he knew 19 years ago and who he lost touch with while they were both working on a ship-based radio station on the North Sea.

This book, my first, takes you on a long roller coaster ride from my earliest memories right up to the present time. It is packed full of the most extraordinary experiences encountered by me throughout my working life of some 20 jobs! For the romantic at heart, there is a whole chapter which includes a tender and graphic description of a young boy's first kiss. But mostly, this is a lively, light-hearted journey through working life, filled with a motley collection of unlikely characters encountered along the way. This is a book to be enjoyed, identified with, and, hopefully, not to be put down!
PROLOGUE
Some people set out to write a book. They put an enormous amount of effort and time into researching it, and the end result usually justifies the means.
This book was not planned. In fact, it is more of an accident than an intention. At my time of life, rapidly approaching the “three score years”, it occurred to me that I had collected a remarkable amount of stories and experiences in my lifetime, many of them stranger than fiction, all of them enjoyed (or so I’m told) by the many people subjected to them at one time or another either at work, family gatherings, wed |
