Abortion is not merely about a woman’s right to do with her own body whatever she would do. Abortion is about the human need for privacy, the ownership of and responsibility for one’s body in time and space, whatever its gender, without which there would be no individual being.
Of course rights are political rights to the degree they are determined by society. A democratic society may choose tyranny, so when we speak of absolutely individual rights we imply anarchic rights, that no archon or dictator or arbiter may deprive any individual of certain rights.
Imagine that over half the adult female voters along with half the male electorate so constitute a democracy to prohibit abortion altogether, or that all female electors constituting a majority do so, or that nine female supreme court justices do just that after pondering upon the abstractions of constitutional law. What then becomes of the argument that abortion is about women’s political right to deprive men of children when women have forced themselves to have children anyway?The feminist movement was led by women opposed to abortion. Susan B. Anthony called abortion “child murder,” and the author of the first version of the Equal Rights Amendment, said abortion was “the ultimate exploitation of women.”
No, the right to abortion is the individual’s right to disposition of its own body. It is indeed a political right for politics is about the intentional distribution of the absolute power desired hence worshipped. The progress of civilization may be measured by the emancipation of women from subordination to men due to the civilizing effect they have had on them while recovering their primordial mother right; man is he who comes forth from ma; without the womb, mankind, or better said, humankind, would perish. So yes, abortion is about the freedom of women from enslavement, yet it is fundamentally about the freedom of her other half as well hence the freedom of the race. In fact, rebellious slaves of both sexes have championed the civil rights we enjoy today.
Yes, indeed, males have admittedly managed to maintain their brutish power over the physically weaker but fairer sex; ironically civilization dominated by males has done its best to render her weaker than her capability, prohibiting her from work outside the home and denying her the honor of war. Humans cannot go forth and multiply without the womb. New families were started with captured women who chose to live rather than kill themselves at the prospect.From time immemorial, females and their babies were by males treated like property to be disposed of when convenient, either by abortion or infanticide, for one cause or the other. For example, there may be a good reason to prohibit the restriction of the population, say, when more labor is needed to subsist, or when confronted by an enemy.
The knowledge of death motivated man and woman (“wife of man”), to emigrate and populate Earth when he became aware of his mortal self in paradise. Earth is limited and man is his own worst enemy or best friend. Let us stop blaming gods or a one-god for everything we do or might consciously or subconsciously want to do or not. Our projected gods are as inherently confused as we happen to be at any given moment until love overcomes strife. We are the gods to be blamed.
We feel humankind progressing from the ages of fear and obedience to the age of love yet whom do we love the most when we love one another but our own selves? Our love religion has remained so selfish that natural born killers have killed millions of people including women and children in the name of the god of hate-others-self-love. Religion is more or less an excuse for what we want to do or a justification of what we have already done despite the transcendental moral principles professed by the high priests. And such injunctions as Thou shalt not murder, meaning we may kill as many as we want as long as we think it is okay with our god.
We come from our mothers but we leave Earth alone, wherefore the ancient salvation religion expected the individual to be saved or rendered immortal somehow into some pleasant precinct, and to hell with others if need be. Life is a death sentence. The medieval version cosigned the aborted fetus and dead un-baptized infant to eternity in limbo if not to a mild district of hell pursuant to the myth of original sin—the Vatican decided in 2007 to allow them into heaven.
The ages ideally progress from law to faith to love, with love being the realization of ideal individual freedom where terror and belief are no longer necessary to sustain humankind. Love cannot be forced on others. The physical and mental rape of men and women is not love. The veiled side of our civilization is based on organized mental and physical rape or the systematic prostitution of body and soul. The joke is on us and we laugh at the irony. Civilization for pessimists is a discontent and pregnancy a disease. Let genuine love on Earth persuade us otherwise.
A refusal to involuntarily bear children is basically a refusal to be physically enslaved by another. If only males were capable of bearing children after their usual indiscretion, more men would agree that everyone must be responsible for his and her own body and that would be the end of the argument.
The right of women over their own bodies is the same right to privacy that men would enjoy to the best of their ability. The feminist argument that what is at stake regarding abortion in the United States is merely about tyranny of men over women is specious. That notion should be aborted because everyone’s freedom is at stake whether they like it or not.
