Living in modern times has its own special challenges.
I hold the device in my hands, but it holds me so much more. It holds everything I am. My photos of family and friends, my favorite books and music. It holds my credit accounts and my debit accounts. I cannot wash my clothes nor find my way around town without my device. Truly, without my device, I cannot even order myself a sandwich.
Then came the day: I watched my device slip from my hands, to drop through the air, tumbling downward, through a grate in the street. Into a sewer. My life in a sewer. A life unable to be verified. Am I human? Who would know me? How can I prove myself to the world? I once feared death because I feared being alone. Now I fear being alive without my device. Is the sense of self an illusion?
