When I first started my career, I had an incredible teacher named Buzzy, whose
radiant light was so bright it could lighten all earths skies at night!
Buzzy was a 28 year old Molecular Biologist who was trying to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, the disease that took the life of his younger brother at age eight. Buzzy also had Cystic Fibrosis.
Buzzy taught me through his actions, which were always to help others in any way he could. He radiated loving light and joy even though Cystic Fibrosis is an extremely difficult disease to have.
I nearly died at the age of 31, and from the confines of a hospital bed, I asked the nurses to bring me some watercolors and paper. I had never painted in my life.
After leaving the hospital, I immediately started trying to help people in need and to paint and write.
Buzzy guided me to quickly get my art in the world by reminding me that starting my career at age 31 was very old and I needed to hurry! He also said we choose our lives and that I had chosen a very difficult one.
He pushed me to have as many art shows as soon possible. And he added that rebels like I can be at times, have it harder and I needed to hurry!
Accepting I chose my extremely difficult life was a challenge for me, but it gave me complete freedom by taking responsibility for my life. I no longer spend one moment in time 'Blaming' others.
With Buzzys guidance, I went to the country of Ireland to find a better place to be an artist. I started writing music as soon as I got off the plane. It was freezing cold but the people had such a joyful spirit, it raised mine and I forgot about the weather.
Yet I knew Buzzys life would soon be over because of Cystic Fibrosis and I felt an urgent need to be with him before he died so I went back to the United States.
I moved in with Buzzy the last three months of his life. His girlfriend had posted her engagement to another person in the newspaper before telling Buzzy and he was heartbroken. But he was not happy to be living with me, an older woman. I was three years older then him.
Everyday Buzzys disease progressed and he had to have his chest cleared to breath. He would go dancing with his nurses at night, as his happy spirit kept him constantly choosing fun things to do as he never let his disease stop him from enjoying life.
When he had to be put on oxygen to breathe, he reminded me that each of us chooses our own time of death, and his was now.
In the hospital, Buzzy worked on his Masters Thesis to help find a cure for
Cystic Fibrosis and when he was through, I typed the thesis for him and afterwards I went back to my painting.
When Buzzy was taking his last breath, I and several friends surrounded his hospital bed; pouring back to him the loving light he had so graciously shared with us.
After he died, a beautiful supernatural light poured from the paintings I did. I believe Buzzy was letting me know his loving spirit was still guiding my soul to share my art with the world.
