Ann Coulter says Resistance Is Futile! Come November when the midterm elections unfold, we'll see if she is right.
The Resistance Movement
Conservative Commentator Ann Coulter recently released a book entitled “Resistance Is Futile!” It says everything about what she thinks of the Resistance Movement of the American Left. I am only one of those who observe American politics from afar and so cannot claim that I know as much as she does. I am not even in a position to agree or disagree with her, but the modus operandi of the Resistance Movement is shocking to me, as it smacks of a quasi-Communist Apparat.
During his long struggle against the Nationalist Government in Nanjing, China, led by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Communist Party Mao Zedong said to his followers, “Comrades, whatever the enemy supports we must oppose; whatever the enemy opposes we must support.” To Mao’s credit, this instruction from him turned out to be an extremely lethal and effective strategy that contributed to the eventual defeat of Chiang Kai-shek, forcing him to relocate his government to Taiwan in the spring of 1949.
Now, it seems to me that some strategist in the Resistance Movement, pulling strings from behind the scenes, has taken a page from the playbook of Mao, who, as history shows, was a Machiavellian strategist. To the Resistance, “the Enemy” here is none other than the president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump. The Resistance apparently wants to capture him dead or alive!
Eager to help, certain mainstream media outlets have become the most trusted names in Trump-bashing, stoking the flames of hatred of “the Enemy”. As Mao said in life, “Politics must stay in command.” So, these media organizations act as if they are part of the Resistance of the political left, as if journalistic credibility no longer counts, as if they are no longer commercial business franchises with a responsibility to boost advertising revenues for their shareholders. Where are the Boards of Directors?
Whatever Trump supports the Resistance must oppose; whatever Trump opposes the Resistance must support. President Trump is a very talkative man, so it now seems that whatever he says must be impeachable by the standards of the Resistance and that whatever he does is likely to cause a disaster or at least trigger “a deep recession with no end in sight”. And, of course, only the Resistance is “for the people” and represents the best interests of the people. There is no compromise. Bipartisan cooperation is dead; it is only a fool’s dream. There is nothing constructive about the Resistance, because it is meant to be destructive.
Is there reason to suspect that the leadership of the American Left has Marxist leanings? In my opinion, there is. To illustrate this point, one need only take a close look at the people associated with former president Barack Obama.
First, there is Ms. Anita Dunn, who, after helping Obama get elected in November 2008, became his interim Communications Director. In June 2009, she made clear in front of a group of students that Mao Zedong is one of her favourite political philosophers. Without question, she is a good student of Mao Zedong Thought and Mao’s Machiavellian strategies such as resistance, class struggle and “the united front”, which in fact is a treacherous effort to isolate “the Enemy” by fooling the credulous into believing that “the Enemy” is 100% evil while the Communist Apparat is 100% “for the people”.
Then, we have Obama-appointed former CIA Director John Brennan, who, in 1976, no doubt as a believer in Marxist political philosophy, voted for Gus Hall, the presidential candidate of the Communist Party USA. Comrade John Brennan recently lost his security clearance but vowed to continue his bitter fight against “the Enemy” President Trump. As a TV viewer, I think this Donald J. Trump Presidential Reality Show is getting more and more interesting and exciting! Who’s going to win in the end? The air is replete with suspense.
Then, there is Mr. Bill Ayers, former leader of Weather Underground, a radical leftist organization that launched a series of bombings at government buildings in the 1970s. Bill Ayers and his wife in 1995 hosted a gathering at home, where Obama was introduced to them by Illinois State Senator Alice Palmer as her chosen successor.
And then, there is a photograph, taken before the November 2008 presidential election, showing Obama smiling and standing side by side with Louis Farrakhan, leader of Nation of Islam. Apparently, Obama had Louis Farrakhan’s support. There is nothing wrong with politicians seeking political support. The interesting questions one might ask would be: What types of political figures supported Obama for president and why? What types of people did President Obama appoint to important posts and why?
Barack Obama, with his sweet smile, strikes me as a friendly and likeable person. But if you are a believer in American capitalism, you probably have already learnt that during his years in office, President Obama did not prove to be a business-friendly leader. His administration added regulations that prompted businesses to have second thoughts about new investments and expansions in America. This discouragement of business investment was one of the main reasons for the sluggish economic growth of the Obama era.
(As all students of economics ought to know, economic growth requires (1) capital investment, (2) an increase in productivity, which depends on technological advances resulting from costly Research & Development and (3) a growing labour force. No doubt, President Trump is far more friendly than Obama was towards business, thereby encouraging capital investment and spurring Q2 2018 GDP growth to 4.2%.)
As a socialist at heart, Obama’s sympathies did not appear to be with America’s traditional ally Israel, but with America’s traditional adversaries such as the Castro brothers, the Hugo Chavez regime and the Iranian regime. Why? Because these were socialist or quasi-socialist regimes, I guess. Please know that the 1979 Iranian Revolution can be viewed as a historical repeat or recurrence of the Bolshevik Revolution that had occurred in Russia about 60 years earlier.
(Please also know that there is an ancient Chinese saying which goes: “The fortunes of history revolve in 60-year cycles.” In addition, some students of economics including myself believe that the theory of Kondratieff’s cycle deserves attention. Kondratieff believed in economic cycles, and the length of the Kondratieff economic wave is said to be about 60 years. After predicting that due to these unstoppable economic changes, the Soviet Union would eventually collapse, he was arrested and put in a concentration camp. Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin then had him executed.)
It ought to surprise no one if the strategists of the Resistance are studying Marxist political philosophies and adopting Marxist strategies and tactics to fight “the Enemy”, President Trump, because such strategies and tactics have succeeded in third-world countries in the past. Whereas Donald J. Trump is not Chiang Kai-shek and America is not China, America is not that far from the third world.
America’s door is wide open to the third world, and the American Left is working hard to try to turn America into a third-world country. Why? Because once America becomes a third-world country, or once third-world socio-economic and cultural conditions have surged enough to take hold in America, the comrades of the Resistance will be able to seize political power and stay in power willy-nilly for as long as they can -- wielding the Marxist and Maoist strategies and tactics they have already learnt and practised over the years. Anyone trying to stop them will be labelled as a racist. But Ms. Ann Coulter says Resistance is Futile! Come November when the midterm elections unfold, we’ll see if she is right.
