Love comes in many guises. Sometimes it appears on its own, out of nowhere. And sometimes it's just there, waiting to be noticed and embraced. And sometimes it comes in a memory you take out, gently brush away the dust of the ages, and shed a smiling tear over what once was.
I suffer from depression sometimes so acute that it is difficult to get out of bed. It's something I've lived with for most of my life and more than likely will live with for the rest of it. But I've learned different ways of dealing with it, especially when the loneliness gets to be nearly unbearable.
I have had many friends here on the Den. Some were fleeting or have passed on, while others are still around. When my heart hurts I go to my library of poems that I've saved and take comfort in those that have spoken to me in some way. There were many written just for me that still make me smile and marvel that I could be so well thought of. The poets who penned them probably never knew what they meant, and continue to mean, to me. I wish they did know. Perhaps then they would know how they've touched me and have an example of the power of their words to lift the spirits of those who need lifting.
If you are one of those poets who have touched me know that you are thought of and loved as only a fellow poet can love. And know that, at least with this one, you make the difficult times not so difficult and give hope where hope has waned. These, to my mind, are the hallmarks of great, giving, and loving hearts.
