She was a complex woman with a simple faith.
Just as the clouds float through the sky, many times forming shapes conceivable as some thing, her life many times took shape of some thing greater than herself...then there she would be, with nothing. Nothing tangible, that is, for the simplicity of real life always exceeded even the most complex corridors to which she was constantly exposed.
Want? No, she never w a n t e d for anything of necessity. Some ridiculed her at times and claimed she had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. No matter how exorbitant or how trivial a desire was, she seemingly managed to attain it...but to keep it, ha! That was another story!
Her Daddy always told her when she was growing up that she could not be satisfied...true! Most kids can't, and a lot of adults never are, either.
How often those words rang in her ears as she grew older, and she found life as the unfair ogre it could be at times! It had a tendency to take more than it gave! And that was a hard pill to swallow for a giver like she always was!
From the city to the farm, from the farm to the city, from the city to the ocean, from the ocean back to the city...she had made almost a complete circle of life.
My, she thought to herself, how life had changed.
From the comfort of a stable, consistent, loving, environment to basically living on a wing and a prayer, she now realized the true effect of having a simple faith.
Had it actually started in adulthood? She rather thought not as she grew older.
No, a simple faith had been impregnated in her psyche as a mere toddler, no doubt, before she had the ability to conceive the fact of faith. Yes, faith is a fact...for those who choose to believe.
Many, she heralded to herself, never accept the fact of faith...reason being, they never HAD to live by it!
For those who hold fast the contents of The Holy Bible, the fact of faith is conceivable. Story after story in both testaments reveals lives of individuals who displayed not only the fact of faith, but of favor as well. And none lived without sin.
She mused with those thoughts, for surely when the thought of such arises and becomes verbal, critics refute the fact. Or they contend to argue that anyone who believed such would be saying God shows favoritism.
The Bible is explicit in the fact that God is no respector of persons.
But she surmised, from personal experience, faith and favor are available to all who believe...it's a matter of perspective!
As she pondered the path of life she had traversed, memories reminded her of how she had come to embrace the necessity of a simple faith.
In younger years, she was able to MAKE things happen, thus, living by faith was really not necessary. She said she lived by faith and favor, but after several turns of events in later years, the reality of NOW faith came into focus. And in reflecting back, thanks to perspective knowledge, she realized that her real walk of faith and favor had actually begun after her life fell apart.
Self-sufficiency is an underlying sin that she had disguised as faith...what an awakening! Self-sufficiency within itself was not the sin; she had to admit to herself. The fruit that it produced was the sin--pride!
And sadly, more Christians have that inward, easily disguised sin that they fail to acknowledge, than probably every other sin committed.
Yes, the reality of her complexity followed her all the days of her life, but so did the reality of a simple faith.
And favor that God granted in spite of herself...thanks to a heart that followed hard after Him!
