On Thursday of last week I felt the urgency to cook dinner during the morning hours and had planned for my youngest daughter and I to do the grocery shopping. While preparing the dinner, unction came upon me to pray while at the stove. The intensity of the battle was being felt, I could hardly stand up and the dinner was not completely cooked. The beans and rice had come to a boil, the meat was in the oven, and it was almost mid-day. I said to my youngest daughter, “Mommy is going to pray and then we will go and get the groceries.” Something was not right, as I knelt to pray, my eyes felt so heavy followed by what felt like excruciating blows which lead me into unconsciousness yet I could hear the Word speaking from 2 Kings 2:1-2. (1) “And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirl wind that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.” Could it be that I was in Gilgal, being actively involved with programs yet having no power? Gilgal was where the children of Israel encountered their first hindrance on their way to the land of promise. Could it be that I have stayed in Gilgal the place of religious activities but no power for too long? I wondered as I listened to verse (2) “And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel. I began to feel like Elijah, who was in Gilgal, here I was unable to get up to function not even to get up to check on the food on the stove nor on the meat that was in the oven. I was experiencing a T K O (total knock out). But the LORD had sent Elijah to Bethel. Physically I had already lost the battle but my spirit within was relentlessly fighting. Was I at Bethel and needed to surrender all of self and everything to God? I thought about Abraham and Jacob who were at this place called Bethel and was reminded that they too had to make some major decisions in their lives. Could it be that I was wrestling with God Himself? Then revelation came that during the T K O I was fighting against Satan himself in the place of warfare which is like being at Jericho, the place of conflict. Yes, I had stayed too long in Gilgal, the place of many spiritual activities without power. The intense warfare was to get me to Bethel, the place of total consecration and where all my own desires die.
The time had come for me to face my Jordan, the words of Elisha echoed from 2 Kings 2:9-14 (9) “And it came to pass, when they had gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” (10) “And he said, Thou has asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.” (11) “And it came to pass, as they went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.” (12) “And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.” (13) “He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;” (14) “And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, where is the LORD God of Elijah? And when he also had smitten the waters, they parted thither: and Elisha went over.”
